Thieves steal $10,000 worth of copper from Conneaut Lake Park roller coaster
CONNEAUT LAKE — Someone has stolen about 900 feet of copper cable from Conneaut Lake Park’s Blue Streak roller coaster.
The theft occurred between Oct. 16 and 8 a.m. Saturday, state police said. The cable served as the coaster’s electric service line.
Police have not charged anybody with the theft. The replacement cost is estimated at $12 per foot, or $10,800, police said.
The Blue Streak was built in 1938 and is one of two Ed Vettel-designed coasters that are still standing.
It’s not the first time misfortune has struck the 119-year-old amusement park. Fire destroyed its midway and ballroom in 2008, and the park has battled financial problems and bankruptcy.
