Erie School Board member John Harkins, a Democrat, said today that he is seeking the required 500 signatures to get on the April 24 primary ballot for state Senate in the 49th District.
The seat is now held by Sen. Jane Earll, R-Fairview Township, who is not seeking a fifth term.
Harkins said he has about two-thirds of the signatures that he needs, with more than one week before the Feb. 16 filing deadline.
Harkins, 60, who’s been on the School Board for more than 35 years, would seek the Democratic nomination for the Senate seat that covers most of Erie County.
I think it’s about time that we vote a Democrat in there, folks.
